The National Elections Committee approves the final list of candidates for the Federal National Council elections

The National Elections Committee announced today that it has approved the final list of candidates for the 2011 Federal National Council elections, after the end of the appeals period without the National Committee receiving any requests to challenge any candidate. Thus, the final list includes 468 candidates for the Federal National Council elections to be held on September 24, 2011.
The list witnessed the withdrawal of one candidate from the Emirate of Sharjah. According to the executive instructions for the elections, there will be no change in the final list of candidates unless one of the candidates withdraws from the competition. The committee approved September 21, 2011 as the last date for submitting withdrawal requests.
The number of candidates in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi reached 117, in the Emirate of Dubai 124, and in the Emirate of Sharjah 93, and the number of candidates in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah reached 60, the Emirate of Ajman 34, the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain 19 candidates, and the Emirate of Fujairah 21 candidates.
85 women applied for candidacy for the membership of the Federal National Council, as the Abu Dhabi Emirate Committee received 22 applications, the Dubai Emirate Committee 26 applications, the Sharjah Emirate Committee 16 applications, the Ras Al Khaimah Emirate Committee 9 applications, the Ajman Emirate Committee 5 applications, the Umm Al Quwain Emirate Committee 4 applications, and the Umm Al Quwain Emirate Committee 4 applications.
