Tariq Hilal Lootah: Power of attorney for candidacy is a procedural step aimed at facilitating the submission of candidacy applications
The National Elections Committee announced that it had taken a new step to facilitate the candidacy procedures for members of electoral bodies who meet the conditions for candidacy. The committee decided to allow a member of the electoral college wishing to run for membership in the Federal National Council to appoint a representative to submit his candidacy application to the committee of the emirate to which he belongs.
This step allows applicants to run for the Federal National Council elections 2015 to authorize others to submit their applications for candidacy at the candidate registration centers, provided that a special power of attorney is presented for the candidate’s agent and certified by a notary public.
Regarding the adoption of this new step in the process of registering candidates, His Excellency Tariq Hilal Lootah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs and Chairman of the Election Management Committee, explained that the committee considered the permissibility of a proxy to run as a very positive procedural step aimed at facilitating the members of electoral bodies, as well as Within the framework of a set of measures taken by the National Elections Committee on a permanent basis in order to encourage members of electoral bodies to participate positively and effectively in the 2015 Federal National Council elections, whether they are voters or candidates.
According to the timetable announced by the committee earlier, members of the electoral bodies who meet the candidacy conditions mentioned in the executive instructions and who wish to run in the electoral process as candidates will be able to register during the days between August 16-20, in the registration centers that the committee will announce later.
